StEP is a two-part program that helps organizations improve in both strategy design and systematic execution. It is based on the Kaplan-Norton Balanced Scorecard – the gold standard in performance management – and the Philippines’ own Performance Governance System.
The first phase of the StEP intervention includes a Corporate Board Retreat and a Management Strategic Planning Session. Companies are assisted to revitalize their Vision-Mission-Core values and to develop their own Strategy Map and Balanced Scorecard. This comes with coaching on the alignment and monitoring discipline for sustained performance result.
The second phase of the StEP intervention is a follow through program depending on the needs of the company. It focuses on strategy alignment, discipline of monitoring reviews and learning, and engagement. ICD can help companies develop subsidiary scorecards that can be linked to performance management. A mechanism for strategy reviews is put in place to help the Board and the company monitor and adjust to execute their strategy. ICD can also assist to set up and to capacitate its Office of Strategy Management to ensure internal capability for strategy execution.

Driven by the intent of company boards to strengthen Board effectiveness, board evaluation provides a feedback mechanism to support the improvement of the board in providing value to the company. ICD offers third party assessment of the Board’s effectiveness based on the structure, processes, strategy role, and overall performance. As a board’s strengths and weaknesses are presented, ICD recommends best practices to apply to optimize the board’s performance.
