StEP was developed to help organizations improve their strategy design and execution through a systemic framework that combines management and measurement.


The StEP Program is aimed at company directors and senior managers who must formulate, implement, and monitor a winning strategy that is consistent with the firm’s mission, vision and values.


What is the Strategy Execution Pathway Essentials?

ICD's Strategy Execution Pathway (StEP) is a two-part management technology transfer program that helps organizations improve on both strategy design and systematic execution.  StEP is based on the Kaplan-Norton Balanced Scorecard, the gold standard in performance management.  Both Essentials and Masters workshops are designed to develop strategy execution systems for companies in the context of good corporate governance. 


StEP Essentials, explores the intricacies of the strategic process and provides strategy management working teams with skills and tools that help craft strategic plans to support company charters and goals.  The two-day comprehensive program equips participants by: (a) imparting information on the key elements of strategy design and (b) developing basic skills that will help them in the process of creating strategy maps and balanced scorecards for their organizations with the goal of using these instruments as building blocks for developing a governance culture.

    2. Reviewing the Charter: Revisiting the Organization’s Foundation and Visualizing the Future - learn how to create visions that can determine strategic focus and enable organizations to identify breakthrough goals that can serve as tangible results of transformative efforts.
    3. Strategy in Action - appreciate how effective strategy can drive competitive advantage and deliver company value.
    4. Crafting the Strategy Map: Value Creation through Cause-and-Effect Linkages - learn techniques for setting strategic direction by identifying which objectives are aligned with different balanced perspectives.
  • DAY II
    1. The Balanced Scorecard: Defining Strategic Measures & Targets - an introduction on how to effectively choose the right measures and how to operationalize them.
    2. The Balanced Scorecard: Developing & Implementing Strategic Initiatives - explore the creation of game-changing initiatives for process enhancement and organize project teams for implementation based on clear execution plans.
    3. Introduction to Execution Mechanisms - an overview of governance mechanisms showing how their interrelation creates a systemic governance culture within an organization.
    4. Creating Champions: The Role of the Board and Management for Strategy Execution - presenting the role of corporate leadership in the development and implementation of beneficial strategies for performance results.
